Easter morning we said goodbye to Rooster, one of two cockerels on the farm. My granddaughter Lilly called him Hay Hay after the chicken in Moana the Disney movie.
He was having a very difficult time making his way with the Chicken Mob, particularly with Big Boy our largest cockerel. The two of them had a couple of nasty blood-drawn fights, with Big Boy getting the better of a game but overmatched Rooster. With two cockerels to only seven hens, the girls were getting pretty beat up.
As it is on a farm, we raise most of our livestock for food, so Easter morning we thanked our creator for giving us Rooster and his spirit went to Rooster heaven and his body to the pot in our kitchen. He was pretty scrawny under all those feathers but made an excellent bone broth.
